I never got out to get stamps today... must get out to get stamps tomorrow to send the Christmas cards X_X. The last 8 hours of CE can wait. I have days to get it done.

It's really busy this time of year! You can buy stamps online; my old boss did it all the time. Stamps.com is the place to go, I think. I d/led their software, but have never used it, alas.

Now, for that question about Chicago Tardis con. I'm on their Yahoogroup mailing list, and this was in a list message from the last few days:

But there's something I would like to ask you. I got this email from the list the other day:

the following
Official Announcements:

Chicago TARDIS 2008
November 28-30, 2008
Materializing Somewhere In Chicagoland USA

Celebrating DOCTOR WHO's 45th Anniversary with....

COLIN BAKER!

More guests to be announced at a later time, naturally.

A weekend membership is only $50 until 12/31/2007; reserved only $90,
and All-Access $260.

Okay, it's cool that Colin Baker will be there again. :) I've had the pleasure of meeting him and he is a great person and a rather excellent guest, but these prices and levels seem a bit strange, other than the regular membership, of course.

What is reserved? Is this like a Creation Con where one pays for a particular seat that is reserved for them all day or all weekend?

And what is All-Access? Now, if this was a concert, and I had an all-access pass from the band, I would know what that means. But I have no clue what this could mean in regards to a sf con. Do you? I'd ask on the list, but since I've never been, and probably will never, as Thanksgiving is family time, I thought that I would ask someone who has been. Thanks in advance!

This kind of multi tiered membership is unfortunately becoming more common at conventions. It started with the big media cons, but now it's starting to trickle down to other cons. Basically, you get extra stuff the more you pay. I find it disturbing.

Although... looking at what you miss with the basic membership only, it's not a huge/major deal at this particular con. Basically, the $90 buck thing gets you into the brunch with the guests, which is normally a $40 add on, and it gets you a guaranteed seat, so if you plan to go to the brunch, it actually cost the same as membership + brunch and gets you a reserved seat too.

Lifted straight from their website:

Prices Good through December 31, 2007:

All-Access Seating: $260 (limited to 24; front row seating; Thursday Night party with the guests; Sunday Brunch with your choice of guest, exclusive photos, more.)

Reserved Seating: $90 (limited to 65; seating in rows 2-5; includes Thursday Night party with the guests.)

Weekend: $50 (seating past row 6, not reserved)

1-Day: $30

Children 6-10: $25/weekend

Children under 6: free
Children must be accompanied by an adult convention member at all times.
Other Options

Supporting Membership: $20
Gets you an autographed programme book.

Sunday Brunch with the Guests: $40Must have con membership to attend brunch.

Ugh. I had no idea that CT was like a Creation con. I'm sure that I will never attend, then. No wonder the program director was only working on panels at the last minute, in November! I saw that on their mailing list and thought that it was odd. I mean, we have been working on panels for TG since we decided to do it. And D*C folks are starting to work on panel ideas.

But I guess there's a big room at CT, with the guests, and all the other panels are just little fan panels, in small rooms? Well, at least that would be better than a Creation con! I'll never get to see any of the Xena actors because of Creation con. I really hate those pro cons. Really, they could ruin fandom. I'm glad of the fan-run cons, and those are the ones I will support, attend, and help. /soapbox

Actually, CT isn't a very big con, and it's rapidly falling in stature. I wouldn't be surprised if TimeGate beats it in attendance right out of the box.

Something else I did not know. I thought it was a big con, like those Spirit of Light cons in the 80s and Visions in the 90s up there in Chi-town.

But really T-Day weekend is kind of a bad time, esp. if one has to fly. And for many people it is family time. For example, I will never attend Darkover Grand Council meeting in Maryland because it is over T-Day weekend, although it's my best chance to ever see Katherine Kurtz, author of the Deryni novels. An ex-bf attended it once, when he was living and working in DC back in the 80s, and he said that he felt a bit strange, as he was one of the few guys there! :)

I hope that TG will be a good size, say at least 300, but if we had twice or more that many, it might be too many. But if we get a lot of folks, that would mean that we could get more panel rooms and a larger room block for next year. :)

Happy Christmas!

Enjoy your Christmas present of paid time for a year! :) This also includes the 100 total userpics/icons for a year. Usually, that's a separate thingy, but LJ does this during the winter holiday season as a way of saying thank you. You have moved up in the world! You can now do better searching, you can have all replies that you make to other people and all their replies to your posts and comments emailed to you! It's very helpful to keep up with LJ in this way. :) You also have more choices of themes, and the 100 icons is a wonderful luxury! Just don't forget to create the icon makers! :) Enjoy!

One question: Rachel has a plus account. Would she like to have a paid account as well?

I love Christmas shopping online! :)

Wow, this looks odd reading replies this way... I really don't know if she wants a paid or not... I'll ask her.

There goes my excuse for not having lots of user pics X_X.

You know, most people would just say "thank you". LOL! You are rather funny! However, I like getting replies via email--that way I know that I need to go and reply to someone, and don't have to keep checking back at various LJs just to see if there was a reply or not. ;)

As for icons, join [livejournal.com profile] dwicons if you haven't already. :) Someone just did a nice Five set for [livejournal.com profile] dwicons100.

I got replies via email with the free account :)

Yes, I am rather funny... thats the nice way of putting it.

I was going to get around to thanking you of course, and I will :) Right now, I'm finishing the last of the Christmas cards because I have stamps :)

Mike never emailed me back, so I'm sending his "card present" with yours.

I will properly thank you when I get caught up ;)

Huh. It used to be that one didn't get emailed replies with the basic account. Learn something new every day, it seems.

Of course you are funny! I don't like people who don't have a sense of humour--I think that that is very important in a person. Seriously.

Sorry about Mike not replying. He doesn't live on the 'Net the way I do. And I can't remember snail mail addies but I did forward your email to him, and told him to look for it. I can't do everything for everyone, ya know?

And you've already thanked me by being my friend. :)

Well, at least you didn't steal my "Thanks are not necessary" line :)

Seriously, I need a nice piccie of K-9 with that caption.

Really good K-9 icons are difficult to come by. In fact about 90% of the icons that I see posted in
[livejournal.com profile] dwicons are for the Ninth and Tenth Doctors, so the K-9 icons will usually come from School Reunion.

Thanks so much for the lovely Christmas card! And thank you for the B&N gift cards! Mike and I will certainly put them to good use! :) *hugs* Btw, Mike has an LJ at [livejournal.com profile] profsatyre, so do go friend him. :) Alas, I don't think that he has posted anything there yet. I'm gonna send him one of those nudge thingys.

As for getting together, I wish that you guys could come to the NYE party at Bill's, but that's cool. I have to go to my parents for a couple of days starting Christmas day, and then will need a decompression day when I get back. I'll call y'all then, okay?

Btw, am posting more now at [livejournal.com profile] acciochocolate . :)

I would love to have gone, but, Vikki asked after the Police Concert if we would spend it with them and we're exchanging presents with them that night now. Depending on when your party starts, maybe we'll swing by. I dono what time we're meeting up with Vikki and Rain, so we'll just have to see.

changed my user name! :)

I once was deidrecorwyn, and we were mutual friends. I am now
[livejournal.com profile] a_blue_moon_cat and when I applied the rename token, LJ went wonky on me and I lost all my mutual friends. I am still a friend of yours, but I will need you to please friend me back. Thanks in advance. :)
