You're probably going to be disappointed.
Rachel and I were late getting out of town because the hospital was running so late on ultrasound tests, and I'd have missed the start of the 6pm games on friday, and there wasn't anything really exciting I wanted to do at 7, so I told Rachel to just go on to her Meet and Greet event at Jem Con, and I'd just use those 3 hours to get dinner and find us a hotel.
Unfortunately, she'd forgotten to bring her directions for how to get to the hotel... I knew basically where it was, because it was an "O'Hare Airport" hotel, so I got us close, then just had her keep driving towards buildings that were obviously large hotels. We found it about 7:15. It turns out the 7-10 thing had been changed to a 5-9 thing, so she'd already missed half of it.
There is an Outback in the hotel, so I told her I'd just go down and eat dinner and watch some baseball till after her thing, then we'd get a room somewhere.
At 9, here she comes with about 20 people heh. Most of them are panelists at her convention, and they are really cool people. These people can converse very intelligently on all things anime and comic book, and, heh, even on Doctor Who!
Some of us conversed about who for hours. Old series, new series, spoilers etc. They were very keen to hear the news about season 3, which many of them had not seen, and for season 4/5 as well. Leave it to me to hang out with people at a Jem convention and turn the conversation to Doctor Who lol.
I have a very entertaining evening talking to these folks till about 1am, when the bar basically kicks us out :p
I probably should have just gone back and gotten a room at this point, but a few of us decide the night is young, so Rachel drives us down into the city to a bar that's open till 4am heh.
Of course, the side effects of this should be obvious:
1) I probably get more drunk than I've been in 15-20 years
2) We oversleep in the morning. Rachel misses an hour and a half of her con, for which I feel bad, though she tells me not to. I, having been extremely tired BEFORE we left for Chicago, just decide going to ConCeption at that point is just not worth it to me, because I don't feel like driving the explorer half an hour to the site at that point, so I roll over and, well, sleep till almost 7pm heh.
TBH, there wasn't a whole lot I wanted to do at ConCeption anyway. Friday there was a Diplomacy Strategy Session. That was the ONLY thing that interested me. The only thing I saw that I wanted to do today was Diplomacy from 10:30-4:30 probably, or, maybe I'd have tried to learn Settlers of Catan ant noon.... Oh hell, I just noticed there was a game of Kingmaker at 7 tonight... ARGH!!! I would have tried to get into that! I could have slept and STILL gotten into that. OK, NOW I feel stupid. *sigh*
I'm trying to decide if I want to go tomorrow. There are 2 things that interest me, Kingmaker and Diplomacy, both at 8am. I'll probably see if Rachel will just drop me off in the morning, since her Con ends at 3 tomorrow and ConCeption runs till 6.
I can't believe I missed that game of Kingmaker on the Schedule the first several times I looked at it. Doh!
